SPA Helps Hurricane Relief Efforts

Bahamians need our help. Hurricane Dorian has severely impacted the Bahamas, especially the Abacos and Grand Bahama island. As part of relief efforts to aid in the islands’ recovery, the Seaplane Pilots Association is teaming up with our partners at Tropic Ocean Airways to deliver much-needed aid to our island friends who have experienced one of the worst hurricanes in history.

Tropic Ocean Airways has built its business on daily flights to and from the Bahamas in float-equipped Cessna Caravans, and has many friends in the islands, as does SPA. We want to help. Tropic is working with Blue Tide Marine, Discovery Land Company Foundation, Global Empowerment Mission, and the Bahamian Government to offer assistance.

This will be a long-term relief effort. The list of first-response items to get to island residents and relief workers includes generators, tarps, and chainsaws, while donations are needed to fuel relief aircraft. Of course, water, food, and other essentials are in critically short supply.

Brad Fuller, SPA’s contributing photographer and a long-time visitor to the Bahamas, is coordinating SPA’s hurricane relief efforts with Tropic Ocean. He can be reached by Email or 407-491-9787. Donations of physical goods can be dropped off at Brown’s Seaplane Base in Winter Haven, Florida.
